Belgrade meeting for BECA: The project is halfway through

The 18 European partners of the BECA project met on the 6th and 7th of September 2012 in Belgrade. Now that the project has reached its half-way point, it is time to look back at what has already been achieved and look forward for the steps to come.

The BECA project aims at achieving a significant reduction of energy consumption in European social housing, with the help of ICT solutions. Seven pilot sites and 18 partners from eight different European countries have spent the last year and a half, conceiving and implementing the best possible systems for tenants, housing companies and energy suppliers. Soon, the time for operation will start. At the beginning of the next heating period, the pilot sites will enable the tenants to have more insight and control over their consumption of heat, electricity and water.

In addition to the “ecological” aspect of the project, the consortium will also conduct an in-depth analysis of the business model for the technical solutions. The analysis will be led by the questions of who benefits from the energy savings, who pays for it, how it can be assured that it is profitable for every stakeholder and if other positive outcomes than the expected will be found.
